The Bellingham School District will participate as one of 35-plus locations in the Allied Arts Annual Children's Gallery Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 5 at 1306 Dupont St.

The Central Services main hallway will feature some of the children's artwork from the Districtwide Art Project, "Patterns." Photographs will be included of the 13 pieces of K-12 artwork currently on display in the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction's ArtSense exhibit.

Each school was asked to submit one piece of student artwork from each grade level for consideration for the ArtSense exhibit. Art education teachers and community members representing Allied Arts, the Whatcom Museum of History & Art, School Board and the district's Fine Arts Task Force selected the artwork for the ArtSense exhibit in Olympia and the district's 2006-07 Family Calendar.

Art education teachers selected a theme of patterns for this Districtwide Art Project. Patterns is not only one of the state's Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) in art education, but it is a multi-disciplinary concept.  Students explore patterns from the earliest ages through art, music, math, science and literature.
