The Bellingham School District is now accepting applications for summer school, which runs Mondays through Thursdays from July 10 through Aug. 10. Applications and course options are available online at http://www.bham.wednet.edu/district/SummerSchool.htm or call (360) 647-6817.
A support class will be offered at no cost for 10th graders who did not meet standard on the required reading, writing or math sections on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). This course is designed to prepare students for the first WASL retake option in August. Students will be notified of eligibility in June. Meeting standard in reading, writing and math is required for graduation for current 10th graders and beyond, and students have five opportunities to take the WASL.
Also for high school students, an elective culminating project course is offered for students entering grade 12 who want classroom support to get an early start on this graduation requirement.Specialized summer school programs are offered for students in grades two through eight who are not yet meeting state standards in reading, writing or math. Current fifth and eighth graders need to demonstrate that they can meet the state standards in reading, writing and math, according to the district's Progress and Promotion policy. Summer school is highly recommended for fifth and eighth graders who are not yet meeting grade level standards by June. Summer school will be provided at no charge for these students entering grades 6 and 9 who have been highly recommended for this intervention.
