| Projects-Based Learning Environment, More Options Proposed A Board-appointed task force of parents, community members and staff is recommending that Options High School move to a projects-based learning environment beginning this fall and make other changes to eventually create more alternative programs for high school students. "Alternative avenues for engaging students in active learning is central to our strategic goal of getting all students ready for college, career and citizenship," says Superintendent Dale E. Kinsley. Register for Summer School Now High School: Students who took the high school Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) and did not meet standard in reading, writing or math have received a letter with their scores and information about free summer school, July 10-Aug. 10. A course has been created to specifically support students in obtaining these grade-level skills. Additional credit-retrieval and other courses are offered. Click here for an application to register... Elementary/Middle School: Literacy and math summer school support classes are offered for students entering grades 1-8 in the fall. Summer Library Hours/Locations: All families are welcome to use the following elementary school libraries from 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Thursdays from July 10 through Aug. 10: Birchwood, Carl Cozier, Roosevelt and Silver Beach. Free Breakfast for Any Child at Neighborhood Schools Any child ages 2-18 may eat free breakfast at summer school locations through a new federal Simplified Summer Food Program, sponsored by the Bellingham School District. Children do not have to be enrolled in summer school or attend a school to get free breakfast at that location. Click here for times and location information...
