November 10: In Brief Parent Chaperones Needed Parent chaperones are needed for various events throughout the school year. The upcoming Movie Night on 11/17/06 is a prime example! To volunteer in a setting where you are not chaperoning under the direct supervision of a school employee, you must fill out the appropriate volunteer forms and be fingerprinted. The forms are available in the main office. In fact, to volunteer and/or chaperone in a setting where you are under the direct supervision of a school employee, you must still fill out some paperwork, but not necessary be fingerprinted. To cover all bases: get fingerprinted! The fee is $10.00. Locations and times are listed with the packets, which again, are available in the main office. Thank you!
| This is Shuksan's fiftieth year here in Bellingham, and we are preparing for a celebration in the spring. Anyone interested in helping out should contact the PTSA.If you haven't joined the Shuksan PTSA yet, now is as good a time as any. They can always use your help. In other news we are beginning the process of planning for the new Shuksan. The district presented two site plans to the school board on Thursday, October 26th. Both plans call for a new building on the grounds in the area of the current soccer fields. Parent and staff access to the building in Plan I would be from Alderwood by the back of the current school. Bus access would also be from Alderwood but further down the street. In Plan II, parent and teacher access would be from the same location as Plan I, but bus access would be off of Maplewood. We are planning to have a parent/community meeting in the near future to allow neighbors input into the process. In the meantime if you would like to see the plans they are available in the office at Shuksan. The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching. Now is a good time to sit down with your child and discuss their progress in school. Often middle school students will tell you they have no idea how they're doing in their classes. If this is the case I strongly recommend you email their teachers or contact the teachers by phone. With three weeks left there is still enough time to bring up a low grade.50th Annual Turkey Trot!
All parents (whether alumni or not) are invited to walk, jog, run, dash, crawl or otherwise amble the Turkey Trot course with their students this year!
6th graders will run at 8:40 a.m.
7th grade will run at 9:40 a.m.
8th graders will run at 10:40 a.m.
The Turkey Trot Awards Assembly
Hot cocoa will be served after each race, courtesy of Shuksan's fabulous PTSA! Opportunity to Provide Input on Future School-Year Calendars This year, families may provide input on preferences for the 2007-09 school-year calendars via an online survey. To take the brief survey, go online to survey until November 6, 2006. You may use any computer with Internet access to take the survey, at home or at our school. Or, you may contact our school office for a paper copy. The input from families and staff will be reviewed by a district committee and shared with the Superintendent and President of the Bellingham Education Association, the labor organization representing the teachers, for their review. The School Board will approve the final calendars and the dates will be shared with staff and families early in 2007.
