Voters in the Bellingham School District approved both the general operations replacement levy by 67 percent and the technology levy by 69 percent, according to official results for the March 11 election.

Both levies replace funding that expires this year. Therefore, the total tax rate for schools for voters living within district boundaries will not increase due to the passage of these levies. The levies make up about 20 percent of the district's budget to support instruction, smaller class sizes, school bus transportation, safety and health, and technology for student learning.

"We are so grateful for our Bellingham voters who continue to support our schools," said Superintendent Kenneth Vedra. "This support is essential because it covers basic education needs that are not fully funded by the state or federal government. We are deeply committed to continuing our work as good stewards of public funds and we recognize the importance of delivering a return on investment by providing high quality learning experiences for all of our community's children."

"We thank each and every voter on behalf of the children, their teachers, our committee and community," said Dr. Mike and Nancy Oswald, who served as co-chairs of the Citizens' Advisory and Campaign Committees.  "Numerous parents and business leaders throughout Bellingham contributed to the cause of helping our community understand just how important this support is for our schools."
