The Bellingham School District's Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee is hosting a Sharing Fair from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 in the Bellingham High School Commons in response to an expressed need among schools PTA/PTSA/parent organizations to learn from each other, work together and leverage ideas.
Goal: The purpose of the event is to provide a forum for K-12 district parent association executive boards, school committee chairs, active parents, principals, district personnel, teachers, regional PTA contacts and others to exchange ideas about important school activities with the goal of learning and improving these events at all schools.
What: There will be opportunities to discuss ideas and gather information on elementary, middle and high school activities to enrich children's educational experiences. Topics will include: fundraising, assemblies, family involvement, communications/newsletters, science fair, arts, music, world language or any topic of your choice. At least two parents from each school are recommended to attend.
Bring: Best practice details from your school on things that work well to share with others. Questions on how to improve an activity/event. New ideas! Documented "how to" information, "show and tell" items, as well as photos or other helpful information to share.
How: Planned breakout topics/"tracks" for discussion are below or groups can create their own topic or track.
Agenda/Tracks/Breakout Topics:
10 minutes, Opening for all
40 minutes, Fundraising activities and events, art (Reflections), music and science, social activities/dances
40 minutes, How to increase involvement in the PTA/PTSA, school activities, after school and extra curricular activities (Geography Club, math camp, FLAN, Mountain School, etc.)
40 minutes, Communications/newsletters/e-news, assemblies, new ideas, college prep, gap year, vocational/technical
20 minutes, General closing/recap
Separate tracks can be started for treasurers or other topics as needed/requested.
