| A deer was killed by a large animal in the 300 Block of Bayside Road yesterday. The Humane Society investigated and said the deer was dragged several yards and a good portion of it was eaten by a large animal, possibly a cougar. Edgemoor residents are advised to be on alert and keep your small animals inside at night. Jan Mitchell of the Northwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center says, "If you see a cougar, call 911. DO NOT approach or track a cougar. Stay in your home. An emergency crew will come out for protection and will contact the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife." 2008 Middle School Challenge Run & Walk The 4th Annual Greater Bellingham Middle School Challenge Run & Walk will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Whatcom Falls Park. This event serves as a friendly competition each year between the four Bellingham area middle schools to see which can attract the most participants. The course is 2.3 miles in length and students can choose to either walk or run this distance. There is a $10.00 entry fee and this includes a unique and colorful event t-shirt which features the original artwork of our t-shirt design contest winners. All monies generated by this event are distributed between the four participating PTSA's based on each school's number of entries. Fairhaven is the defending champion of this event and we would very much like to retain the right to display the Challenge Run Trophy in our trophy case by winning again this year. The registration process for this event has already begun and entry forms can be found in the main office (look for them on the front counter) or downloaded from the Fairhaven Middle School Website, http://fairhaven.bsdnet.wednet.edu/School%20Info/entry_form.htm. Additional Information can be accessed at http://fairhaven.bsdnet.wednet.edu/School%20Info/info.htm. If you have any questions about this event, or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Bob Lazzar-Atwood at 676-7144 or bobkaren@q.com.
