Linda Wise Miller from the Mount Vernon School District is being recommended at the July 24 School Board meeting as the new assistant principal of Bellingham High School and Michelle Abernathy from Fairhaven Middle School is being recommended as Kulshan Middle School's new assistant principal.
Miller recently completed her administrative training at Mount Vernon High School, where she has taught business and marketing since 2001. During her time with the Mount Vernon School District, Miller served as Navigation 101 Advisory/Student Learning Plan coordinator to lead the development of learning plans for all students through an advisory program. She has also taught teacher training courses at Western Washington University.
She earned her doctorate in education and master's in business education from the University of Idaho and her bachelor's degree from Austin Peay State University.
At Bellingham, Miller will join principal Steve Clarke and assistant principal Jeff Vaughn.
Recommended as the new assistant principal at Kulshan Middle School, Abernathy completed her administrative training at Fairhaven Middle School, where she has taught math and science since 1990. While at Fairhaven, Abernathy worked with colleagues as an instructional leader, served on the district's Graduation Requirement Task Force and the Standards-based Report Card Committee, launched a student character traits recognition program, and specialized in math/science assessment and teaming.
Abernathy earned her master's degree in education from Western Washington University and her bachelor's degree from the University of Utah.
At Kulshan, Abernathy will join principal Jeannie Hayden.
