EARLY RELEASE ENGINEERING CLUB Join the engineering club. Look for information in your child's VIP envelope. This is a free after school program. |
On Tuesday, we had an unfortunate incident involving bicycles being vandalized. The silver lining was the community effort that was displayed to help the staff and students who were affected. If your child's tire was popped on Tuesday and you are unable to get it repaired please contact me. A Larrabee parent who is also a bike mechanic has volunteered to help. Mr. Brede picked up a bike pump and tube repair kit in the event of future emergencies. The turn out at the PTA Potluck on Thursday was tremendous, and it was a party to remember. I hope you had a chance to attend. Before dinner we were treated to a story teller, and after dinner live music was provided by the band, Bent Grass. It was a great opportunity to mingle and meet new people. Keep your eyes on the calendar for the next PTA event. This group knows how to throw a party. Eric Paige
FLAN Spanish and French classes will not begin until the week of October 6. Hopefully, by then, the scheduling conflict between choir and Spanish will be resolved for primary students. French is offered on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:00. Spanish is 2:30-3:25 for primary students and 3:30 - 4:25 for intermediate students. The session fee is $75; scholarships are available. If you would like more information, please contact Annie Boydstun at 305-8667 or email: sandseeker@yahoo.com. The Bellingham Family Book Club is starting in October! 5th grade readers and their significant adults are invited to join the Family Book Club! We will meet at the public library on the second Monday evening of the month, beginning Oct. 13. Our first book will be Room One: A Mystery or Two, by Andrew Clements. To find out more, contact Mrs. Ficklin (aficklin@bham.wednet.edu) or check the Larrabee web page - http://larrabee.bham.wednet.edu. Multiple events took place this week which serve as reminders about why Larrabee is such a special place. We will have an assembly almost every Monday from 9:00 to 9:15 AM and families are invited to join us. I view this time as both educational and community building. In addition to weekly announcements, students are allowed to "share" at the assembly. Sharing has ranged from telling jokes to performing gymnastic routines. The creativity and courage of the students is amazing when they are given a safe environment. This past Monday, third grader Nyal decided that he would like to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then first grader Ben sang a song in Samoan, his native language. First grader Linnea then closed the show with a jazz song and was accompanied by her mom on the keyboard. When you think about these young children getting up in front of 250 plus people and taking a risk, it is inspiring.
