The Whatcom Middle School PTSA and the Whatcom Community Foundation are now offering ways to help Whatcom students, parents, faculty and staff impacted by the fire. The district would like to express the deepest amount of gratitude to everyone who has offered their support, including private businesses, non-profits, and members of the Bellingham community. The Whatcom PTSA and Whatcom Community Foundation will work together to coordinate district needs with the many offers of help they have received. Below are several ways community members can help:
At this time, Whatcom PTSA Co-Presidents Wendy Albrecht and Kerrie Zerba are coordinating names of community members who are willing to volunteer as needed in a variety of ways. Community members willing to help may contact Albrecht and Zerba at WhatcomPTSA@gmail.com.
Currently, there is an immediate need for funds to help low-income students replace lost school supplies, playground equipment, athletic equipment, musical instruments, and provide classroom supplies for teachers. Monetary donations may be sent to the Whatcom PTSA, 3014 Vallette Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Please make checks out to "Whatcom Middle School PTSA."
Donations to assist with Whatcom Middle School needs are also being accepted by the Whatcom Community Foundation on its Web site. All of these donations, which are tax deductible, will be forwarded to the Bellingham Public School Foundation and will go in a general fund to help students or staff recover from the fire. This site is set up to accept credit card donations.
Whatcom parents and community members are encouraged to participate in an online survey sponsored by the Whatcom PTSA to support the transition process. Click here to take the survey.
