COLLEGE:
Goal 1: All Alderwood students in grades K-5 will make continuous progress toward reaching standards in reading, writing and math.
Goal 2: Alderwood staff will use common formative assessments, diagnostic assessments and district and state assessments to monitor individual student progress and adapt their instructional program to meet the wide ranging needs of our student population, thereby reducing the achievement gap.
Goal 3: Alderwood staff will increase the opportunities and methods of delivery used to inform parents about classroom instruction and student progress.

H1N1 (Swine Flu) Basics
What is H1N1 flu? In general, swine flu is a respiratory disease in pigs that would not generally infect humans. But it combined with other viruses to make a new virus (H1N1) that can now be transmitted from person to person. What are the symptoms of H1N1 flu? Symptoms are similar to those for seasonal influenza, and include fever over 100 degrees F, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, fatigue, and lack of appetite. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can occur, resulting in dehydration. How do people get H1N1 flu? When someone infected with H1N1 coughs or sneezes droplets near you and you take in the virus through your mouth, nose, or eyes. You can also get it by touching something that has the germ on it and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes. How long does it take to start showing symptoms if a person is exposed? Not all infected people get sick, but if an infected person does get sick it usually happens 1-7 days after exposure to the germ. What do I do if I think I might have it? Unless you need urgent medical care, please phone the doctor rather than going in. The doctor will determine if treatment is needed. How long are people contagious? A person can shed some virus 1 day before they have symptoms, and possibly up to 7 days after, however a person can return to school or work after the fever has been gone for 24 hours without fever suppressing medications. What about the lingering cough? It is very important to cover the cough, since there is some possibility of shedding the virus. Use cough-suppressing medication to assist with sleeping and daily activities.
