Geneva Elementary School, Fairhaven and Shuksan middle schools will host open houses for Whatcom Middle School students and their families in mid-February:
- 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, Shuksan Middle School gym for next year’s seventh graders (current Whatcom sixth graders) and their parent/guardian(s).
- 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, Geneva Elementary School gym for next year's sixth graders (current fifth graders in Whatcom’s attendance area) and their parent/guardian(s).
- 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, Fairhaven Middle School commons/cafeteria for next year’s Whatcom eighth graders (current seventh graders) and their parent/guardian(s).
Each one-hour event will feature a welcoming program for Whatcom families to learn more about the schools, meet current students and staff, and tour the schools.
Next year’s Whatcom eighth graders (current seventh graders) will continue to attend Fairhaven Middle School and next year’s seventh graders (current Whatcom sixth graders) will attend the new Shuksan Middle School. Students will participate in the schools' programs, electives, activities and athletics with friends in their grade levels according to the middle school schedule.
Next year's sixth graders (current fifth graders in Whatcom’s attendance area) will attend Geneva Elementary School for one year and then Fairhaven for seventh grade. Whatcom students attending Geneva will be on either the elementary or middle school schedule. This will be determined as details regarding transportation and opportunities for students to participate in activities and athletics are addressed this spring.
Details such as transportation, activities and athletics, school and student schedules, and more will be addressed by staff who will develop an implementation plan throughout the coming months. We will not have these logistics determined until later in the spring.
