Dear families,
Yesterday, one of our students was struck by a vehicle when he stepped into the crosswalk at the intersection of Chuckanut Drive and Park Ridge. Fortunately, the student was not injured and the police are involved. At the time of the accident, it was observed by witnesses that the driver of the vehicle was using a cell phone. Today, I am writing to remind you that research tells us that driving with a cell phone pressed to your ear is similar to driving while intoxicated. I know that many of us are in a hurry, and making phone calls in the car may seem an efficient use of time. Please think about what happened yesterday at Fairhaven, and make a commitment to make your car a cell free zone.
Good thoughts, Deirdre O’Neill

PTSA News:
"Hey all you people persons! Can you recognize talent when you see it? We need 2 volunteers to serve as our nominating committee to help build the board for next year. This is a short term project, with the slate of candidate needing to be in place by March 8th. Interested? Contact Kerri Sloan (kerriandpaul@comcast.net) or Dennis D'Amelio (dennis@ciswhatcom.org)
Parents--Please consider serving on next year's PTSA Board. Many of our current board members are 8th grade parents so we will have a need for co-Presidents, a Vice-President (Finance), Treasurer and Secretary. This really is an opportunity to affect your child's FMS experience, to gain a greater understanding of the complexities of our school system, and to build relationships with staff, teachers, and parents that otherwise may not happen."
