Assistance League of Bellingham “Community Enrichment Through Community Service” Families with 8th grade students: District News I am writing to inform you of an upcoming opportunity for your students to explore college options at an info fair supported by KnowHow2GO Washington (http://www.knowhow2go.org/). The event will be hosted by Washington Campus Compact, and held in the lobby of WWU’s Communication Facility on Sunday, March 7, from noon-3pm. We will feature a variety of departments and clubs from WCC, BTC, and WWU, and encourage district middle and high school students and their families to drop by and visit the booths in this informal session to glean useful information about college access. The KnowHow2GO campaign is a media campaign designed to catch the attention of students and get them interested in going to college. The campaign promotes four steps: Be a pain (referring to telling adults about the desire to attend college); Push yourself (referring to challenging academic courses); Find the right fit (there is a college out there for all interests); and Get your hands on some cash (financial aid aspect). KH2G has already supported various district events including an AVID lock-in at Shuksan Middle School, co-sponsorship of College Goal Sunday hosted by WWU, and an agreement to sponsor the upcoming Squalicum Storm Night in March. I am committed to helping area tweens and teens realize the accessibility of college, and hope that you will join me in sharing the news about this event with your students and their families. I welcome any questions you may have. Thank you, Heather Davidson, Washington Campus Compact PTSA News Calling all students! The Foreign Language program (FLAN) plans to offer after-school French this winter and spring! Our new teacher, Madame Aude Cornet, is a native French speaker who is very enthusiastic about teaching the language. French classes will meet on Tues/Thurs from 3:15 - 4:10 pm. There is also the possiblility of Mandarin Chinese or Japanese before school. Please contact Rachel Budelsky, the parent FLAN liaison at FMS, if you are interested in learning more about these or other languages: call 393-3269 or email budelsky@comcast.net.
