Dear Parents/Guardians,

I wanted to inform you that we were made aware of a written threat in one of our girl's bathrooms later today, March 2. This follows two different written threats in bathrooms made during the last two weeks. In all cases, we immediately notified police. Police are continuing their investigation.  

I want to assure you that we are also actively investigating and intend to hold those responsible accountable.

Please know that will be continuing our safety measures as well as taking additional action beginning tomorrow, March 3. Bellingham police will be at school tomorrow. Staff will increase their presence in hallways and our lunchroom. We have also hired additional supervisory staff to monitor and routinely check bathrooms and other areas.

Ensuring student safety continues to be a priority of mine and all staff. I am sending this information by e-news this evening and I am planning to follow up with a letter tomorrow.  The volume of phone calls to our office has been high and while I want to encourage you to contact me with concerns, it is also important that I am able to be out in the school with our students.

Please know that I continue to share with you all of the information that I can without jeopardizing our ongoing investigation. I encourage you to have conversations with your child. If your child has any information about the recent incidents, please encourage him or her to immediately notify me or another staff member.

It is our desire and intention to continue to create a safe learning environment. Be assured that we take the well-being of your children very seriously and make every effort to ensure their safety. I will continue to keep you informed.
