AUCTION/DESSERT SOCIAL NIGHT
What a community we have here!   The donations are coming in!  Every day we are inspired by the generosity
of Larrabee families and
our local businesses.  The Village Inn has donated
a one night stay, Mambo Italiano a generous gift card and A Lot of Flowers a lovely piece of Art.  WOW!

The State Board and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction announced Wednesday, that Larrabee Elementary School has received a 2009 Washington Achievement Award.  We received an “Overall Excellence” award for student performance over the past three years.  Other award categories included: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Gifted Education. 
 
State superintendent Randy Dorn said, “We’re proud of these schools.  They’re showing that great gains can be made for all students.”  The “Overall Excellence” is a testament to the commitment Larrabee has to the success of all students (English Language Learners, Special Education, Highly Capable, and all income levels).  This award is also a result of hard work by former and current Larrabee students, staff, and families.    
 
We were one of fifty elementary schools to receive this award, and I would also like to congratulate the Happy Valley Elementary community and Fairhaven Middle School community for their awards.  The fact that three Bellingham schools received these “Overall Excellence” awards is an indication of the strength of our district, because without the collaboration that occurs between all of our schools we couldn’t have achieved this success.

The American Museum of Radio and Electricity heard about the fabulous projects that were on display at Larrabee last Thursday and wanted to have a bunch to share at the Children's Gallery Walk in May.  I know that kids (and many parents!) put in lots of hours researching, experimenting, working on boards, etc. so it is an excellent opportunity to share what they learned with an even larger audience!  If you are finished displaying it in your home for now and your child would like to share it with others, please send the display board to the school office.  We will store the boards until it is closer to the event, deliver them to the museum, collect them after the event and return them to your child. There is still space available in the after school Decoupage Art class during our Early Release on Monday.

Decoupage is similar to paper mache, where layers of paper are applied with glue.  With   decoupage, the layers decorate a jar or other form.  You can make a vase or sun catcher or design some jewelry.  Bring your own interesting jars, or use some of mine.  See the samples in the lunchroom.

Cost is $18.00 (some partial scholarships are available).  12:30—4:00  Monday, March 22nd.
