The Washington State Board of Education and the Office of Superintendent of Public Education announced that three schools in the Bellingham School District were selected to receive Washington Achievement Awards for 2009. Among the 174 schools selected, Happy Valley Elementary School, Larrabee Elementary School and Fairhaven Middle School were awarded for overall excellence.

A total of 70 elementary, 26 middle, 52 high schools and 26 comprehensive schools were recognized.  Celebrations around the state will take place May 5.

“The fact that three Bellingham schools received these “Overall Excellence” awards is an indication of the strength of our district,” Eric Paige, principal of Larrabee Elementary School, said. “Without the collaboration that occurs between all of our schools, we couldn’t have achieved this success.”
