Recognized as the Northwest Region Middle School Principal of the Year in 2009, Kuss-Cybula is currently principal of Cascade Middle School in Sedro-Woolley. She also directs her district's Advancing via Individual Determination (AVID) program that supports students in developing the academic, organizational and communications skills needed for success in high school and beyond. Previously, she was assistant principal at Sedro-Woolley High School and worked in Oregon as a high school assistant principal, activities director and art teacher. She has also taught art at the elementary, middle and high school levels in New York.

She earned her bachelor's degree in art education and master's in curriculum and instruction from the State University of New York.

A committee and interview team that included Fairhaven students, parents and staff participated in the process to develop desired characteristics and interviewed candidates.
