The High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) measures the proficiency of students in high school and serves as the state's exit exam. Students in the classes of 2010 through 2012 must pass this assessment or state-approved alternatives in reading, writing and mathematics to be eligible to graduate.
High school students received their individual state assessment score reports in the mail from their schools earlier in June. State assessment score reports for grades 3–8, as well as a second round of final high school score reports (including science), will be mailed to district families in mid-to-late September. District and school state assessment results from spring 2010 testing will be released in late August following verification through the state's process.
The next High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) test administration is August 9-12.
Students who were in grades 10, 11 and 12 during the 2009-10 school year, as well as non-enrolled 12th graders, are eligible to participate in the August 2010 HSPE. Current ninth grade students are not eligible.
Mandatory registration for summer HSPE testing closes Friday, June 18. Students must pre-register with the state’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction by calling (866) 400-9275 or going online to visit https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us/TestRegistration/
Students will need to provide their State Student ID (SSID) number to register. This number is found on past score reports from HSPE or WASL administrations, on the demographics page of StudentConnection, or can be provided by the school counseling office.
This year, the district's August testing session will be at Sehome High School, according to the mandatory state test schedule:
Students are to arrive at the school at 8 a.m. each morning. The tests are untimed, though most students will finish before noon. Score reports from the summer HSPE will be available by mid-October.
