  Ready Guide 2010: For Middle and High School Students and Families
  
  Middle and high school families will receive a Ready Guide in the mail prior to course registration beginning in early March. The Ready Guide contains important notifications about graduation requirements as well as a course planner. Course descriptions are online in StudentConnection and registration will occur using this system. Students will receive log-in and password information from their schools.

  Registration for Regular and Full-Day Kindergarten Begins March 2
  
  All elementary schools in the Bellingham School District will offer a kindergarten program with registration beginning Tuesday, March 2. Kindergarten start and end times will likely be the same as the schedule for grades one through five. For the regular kindergarten program, the district is considering a full-day, every other day schedule. The decision regarding the schedule for regular kindergarten will be made by March 1 in order to allow families and the district time to plan. The full-day schedule -- instead of a half-day schedule -- is more effective for the High Scope instructional method. It also reduces the district's transportation costs and saves other resources. There is no cost to families for regular kindergarten. For families that prefer a full-day, every day kindergarten schedule, this option will be offered at Alderwood, Carl Cozier, Happy Valley, Lowell, Northern Heights, Parkview, Roosevelt, Silver Beach and Wade King elementary schools on a space-available basis.   Annual Progress Report and Work Priorities
  
  The District Annual Report highlights recent progress on the Bellingham School District's strategic plan and shares our work priorities. The district's latest demographic and student achievement data is also included. The report is shared with the community. We have substantially reduced costs for this required publication by distributing it primarily online. The District Annual Report and School Performance Reports are required under federal and state law to meet many annual family and public notification and reporting requirements.

  Students, Staff Earn Regional and State Honors
  Bellingham, Sehome and Squalicum high school students, as well as Shuksan Middle School students receive state honors. Sehome students place well on national exam and Fairhaven Middle School choir finishes first in county competition.

  At the Dec. 10 meeting, Acting Superintendent Sherrie Brown administered the Oath of Office to new School Board members Dr. Steve Smith and Dr. Scott Stockburger, who were elected on Nov. 3.
